Soprano Egita Gielen (ex. Znutina) was born in Latvia. She started her musical education in the 2nd Music school of Riga.
She continued her musical studies in Riga Dome Choir school which she finished with first level higher education as a conductor. While studying in Riga Dome Choir school, Egita had singing lessons with Latvian National opera soloist Aira Rūrāne.
In 2006 Egita entered Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music in vocal department studying with vocal teacher Kristīne Gailīte. She finished academy with concert – exam and opera The Telephone by G.C.Menotti.
Egita Gielen made her operatic debut in 2008 in the role of Gretel in Humperdinck’s opera Hänsel und Gretel with the Liepaja symphonic orchestra conducted by Viesturs Gailis and directed by Tamara Ēķe in a production of Riga’s opera studio Figaro.
In 10th of June 2009 she had her first solo concert together with pianist Uģis Krišjānis.
2009/2010 Egita participated in Erasmus Programme and made exchange studies with Professor Axel Everaert in Conservatorium Maastricht in Maastricht, The Netherlands. Since 2010 she was a student in Conservatorium Maastricht in professor Everaert’s class.
In 2014 she received Master’s degree in Opera and Master’s degree in Classical singing from Conservatorium Maastricht.
In April 2014 Egita gave a live radio concert on Dutch Radio 4 program Opium op 4.
In August 2016 she made her debut as Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte with Dutch Opera Studio in Amsterdam.
In 2018 soprano Egita Gielen participated in recording of CD Hoensbroekse Luisterliedjes.
Egita Gielen has attended various masterclass with different teachers: Ursula Filge – Kro, Thomas Pfeiffer (Germany), Live Jansen (Belgium), Olivera Miljakovic (Austria), Annika Ollinkari (Finland), Nelly Miricioiu (UK).
Besides operatic repertoire Latvian soprano Egita Gielen sings sacred music and art songs, giving special attention to the music of her country.
